In a culture that glorifies hustle and self-sacrifice, the idea of self-care can feel indulgent, even shameful. We’re taught to give, to serve, to push through. But what happens when we are depleted? Self-care is not selfish. It is the quiet, courageous act of tending to your own humanity so you can show up whole, not hollow. It is essential for every individual to be indulge in self-care in order to advance in their professional and personal life. Prioritising self-care can also include engaging in hobbies, taking bread, as well as practising mindfulness. Self-care focuses on improving the overall mental and physical health while reducing stress.  This enables individuals to support themselves and as well as everyone around them.  Self-care is a necessity and not a luxury! What Is Self-Care? According to the World Health Organisation, self-care is: “The ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability — with or without the support of a health worker.” It includes proactive practices across:
  • Physical health: movement, rest, nutrition, preventative care
  • Mental & emotional regulation: mindfulness, boundaries, therapy
  • Spiritual wellbeing: purpose, rituals, inner peace
  • Social connection: relationships, community, trust
  • Health literacy: knowing your body and making informed choices
